The new Peaky Blinders movie is set to commence filming in Bradford’s Little Germany area. The highly successful television series, featuring Cillian Murphy, chronicled the adventures of a Birmingham crime gang in the years following World War One. Creator Steven Knight is directing the film, with Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy confirmed to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby. Shooting is scheduled to start later, accompanied by temporary road closures that will remain in effect until Sunday. The drama was originally planned for seven series, but the pandemic led producers to conclude it after six. The film is understood to serve as a continuation, replacing the seventh series, with filming having already started in Birmingham last month. Speaking in 2022, Cillian Murphy said: “I think Steve has always had an endgame in mind. Covid screwed that up a bit. But now he’s got lots of plans to make a film.“So I don’t think this is the end of the story. I think it’s probably just the end of the story in this form.“But Steve is always bringing up ideas, and they’re always good. So I’ll just wait and see what he has to say.” Filming is also taking place at additional locations in West Yorkshire, including Leeds. Residents and businesses in Little Germany have received correspondence from production company Oblik Productions Limited, outlining the specific dates and times of the road closures. The following streets will be shut during filming: Peaky Blinders’ six-series television run was filmed at various sites across the UK, including Dalton Mills in Keighley. The main mill within the Grade II* Listed complex, where filming occurred, was destroyed in an arson attack in March 2022. Peaky Blinders represents the second major film to be shot in Bradford in recent months, following the use of the city’s disused Richard Dunn Sports Centre for parts of Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later.
