Law enforcement officials conducting an inquiry into civil unrest in County Londonderry, which resulted in three officers requiring medical attention at a hospital and involved a vehicle collision, have apprehended three additional individuals. Authorities were dispatched to the location of an active disruption occurring at a retail establishment in Kilrea’s Mill Road vicinity during Wednesday afternoon. Upon the arrival of the police, they observed multiple individuals in a parking area whose faces were concealed, and information was received indicating that a female had been assaulted outside the premises. A black Vauxhall Astra vehicle, implicated in the unrest, departed the site, prompting a police chase. Two males, aged 38 and 31, were taken into custody on suspicion of infractions related to driving and narcotics, and they continue to be held by law enforcement. By Thursday afternoon, police announced that an additional three men—two aged 27 and one aged 38—had been apprehended in Kilrea on suspicion of drug-related offenses, alongside charges of criminal damage and interfering with a vehicle. Prior to the arrests made on Thursday afternoon, Superintendent Sinead McIldowney stated that the vehicle ascended a kerb shortly thereafter and impacted a second police patrol car during an attempt to halt it. “Three officers on board sustained injuries and required hospital treatment – they were unable to continue on duty – the police vehicle was also damaged,” she stated. “After the Vauxhall Astra struck the police vehicle it attempted to flee and collided with another vehicle – no injuries were reported. “Officers drew their batons, and windows of suspect car were broken in an attempt to reach and arrest those inside who would not exit the vehicle.” She further remarked: “Thankfully we are not dealing with more serious injuries today – and the actions of the driver responsible for the pursuit and subsequent collision with our officers is totally unacceptable. “Members of the public could have also been injured by what happened due to this completely reckless and dangerous act that should be wholly condemned.” A single eyewitness informed BBC News NI that a vehicle impacted a school bus and her personal automobile during the occurrence. “The car they were pursuing hit a school bus and then they mounted the other side of the pavement,” the woman stated. “If the police didn’t ram the car, I dread to think what would have happened to the kids getting off the bus. ” “My car also got hit as well. There wasn’t much damage to it thankfully, but it was all very scary.” A representative from the Police Ombudsman’s Office informed BBC News NI that the PSNI had informed their agency regarding the event, which took place around 16:30 GMT on Wednesday. “We are currently making preliminary enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened, and this will determine whether there are any matters requiring investigation by the Police Ombudsman’s office,” he commented.
