Repairs to a ruptured sewer line on the Isle of Wight have been postponed because of inclement weather conditions. Southern Water had initially planned to commence repair operations at the location near Appley Road, Ryde, on Wednesday evening. However, the utility company stated that its schedule has been suspended, explaining that “the nature of the work requires dryer conditions for the repair to be carried out safely.” Currently, tankers are gathering wastewater from the compromised sewer along Appley Road and transporting it to the Sandown treatment facility. Southern Water reported that the reason for the sewer’s failure, which typically conveys wastewater from Ryde to Sandown, remains undetermined. As part of the preparations for the repair, which will necessitate the closure of Appley Transfer Station at Ryde, Appley Car Park has been shut down to accommodate 28 storage tanks. During the repair process, 20 tankers will be deployed to transport waste to these holding tanks. The water utility indicated that it would release additional details regarding the commencement of the work in the forthcoming days.
