Legislative amendments put forward by a Jersey minister aim to eliminate residency requirements for individuals seeking abortion services within the island. Presently, eligibility mandates either being a resident of the island or having resided in Jersey for a minimum of 90 days. These proposed modifications, formally submitted by the Minister for Health and Social Services, would stipulate that an individual would solely be required to be physically present for the initial consultations and the procedure for the termination of the pregnancy. Regarding costs, the current charges stand at £185 for individuals eligible for healthcare in Jersey, subject to certain exceptions, and £511 for those not entitled to island healthcare. States members are scheduled to deliberate on this proposal no earlier than January 21, 2025. For updates, connect with BBC Jersey on X and Facebook.
