Nuno de Almeida has been elevated to the position of head of recruitment at Aberdeen Football Club. He assumes this role following the departure of Chris Badlan, who served in the capacity for 10 months. Almeida, a former sporting director for Rio Ave, previously collaborated with Dons manager Jimmy Thelin at Elfsborg. He has been an integral part of the player recruitment and scouting operations at Pittodrie since Thelin, a Swede, assumed leadership in June. Steven Gunn, Aberdeen’s director of football, commented on the appointment, stating: “Nuno has had a hugely positive impact in his time at Aberdeen thus far, bringing a breadth of experience across multiple player trading markets. Nuno has been working with us closely since the summer to identify and progress our player recruitment priorities for the next two transfer windows and that work to strengthen the squad is ongoing.” Gunn also extended gratitude to the outgoing individual, adding: “I would also like to thank Chris Badlan for his effort while at Aberdeen and wish him every success in his future career.” The Portuguese national, Almeida, expressed that his operational methodology is “completely aligned” with Aberdeen’s strategic approach. He further indicated his anticipation of “building on the recent positive work.”
