Blackburn Rovers’ head coach, John Eustace, has confirmed the return of club captain Lewis Travis for the Championship fixture against Sheffield Wednesday scheduled for midweek. The 27-year-old midfielder was unavailable for Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Hull City, which marked Rovers’ fourth consecutive league win, after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season against Leeds United on 30 November. Lewis Baker, on loan from Stoke City, took Travis’s place in the midfield at the MKM Stadium, but Travis is anticipated to rejoin the starting eleven at Hillsborough on Tuesday. Saturday’s win for Rovers also commemorated the 900th consecutive match where an academy player was available for selection for the club’s first team, a continuous streak that began in 2009. Eustace expressed his pride in the club’s sustained achievement in developing homegrown talent. “It just shows you what a special football club this is and the work that goes on behind the scenes from the academy staff is second to none,” Eustace stated to BBC Radio Lancashire.
