Wrexham’s goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo, who made a permanent move to the club this summer following a successful loan spell from Arsenal last season, will be out of action for a minimum of six weeks due to a broken wrist. Defenders Luke Bolton and Will Boyle are also expected to miss upcoming games. The 23-year-old Okonkwo has participated in every League One match this season since his permanent transfer from Arsenal to the Dragons last summer. He underwent a scan after sustaining the injury during the team’s victory against Mansfield Town last weekend. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson commented on the club’s website, stating, “I feel for Arthur, he’s in good form, but we’ve got two experienced goalkeepers ready and waiting.” Callum Burton, 28, formerly with Plymouth Argyle, is considered the likely starter in goal for Parkinson’s team’s match against Stockport County this Saturday. He has made four cup appearances since his arrival at Wrexham in July. In Wrexham’s EFL Trophy fixture at Port Vale during midweek, Burton began the game but was substituted at half-time by veteran goalkeeper Mark Howard. Parkinson further explained, “Our supporters may have found it a bit strange that we played both goalkeepers for 45 minutes on Tuesday night. That was pre-planned in terms of giving them both some gametime, but also to protect Callum a little bit as well.” According to Parkinson, both Boyle and Bolton are expected to be sidelined for four to five weeks following injuries sustained at Port Vale. Separately, veteran striker Steven Fletcher has been referred to a specialist after experiencing a setback in his recovery from a knee injury. The former Scotland international has not participated in a match since mid-October.
