The owner of a rare Pokémon card, valued at up to £30,000, has received it back after it was stolen. According to police, the theft of the valuable Charizard card is believed to have occurred in Heathfield, East Sussex, sometime between 2 and 5 September. Sussex Police reported that they found the same card, which had previously been valued and returned to its owner, listed for sale on Facebook. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed at an address in Polegate, where the stolen collectible was recovered, police stated. The Pokémon franchise originated in Japan in 1996. Its characters, such as Ash and Pikachu, are popular with millions worldwide and have been featured in video games, films, and television programs. In 2021, YouTuber Logan Paul acquired Pokémon cards for $2 million (£1.5 million). A 23-year-old man residing at the Polegate property was apprehended on suspicion of theft. He confessed to the theft of the card and was issued a caution. The valuable collectible was given back to its owner, located in Essex. PC Alan Russell, the officer in charge of the investigation, commented: “It was a valuable item which meant a lot to the victim.” For updates, follow BBC Sussex on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
