Proposed alterations to the East Coast Main Line (ECML), designed to enhance connectivity across Yorkshire, have been announced. The updated timetable will feature additional services through York and Doncaster, but will result in reduced services for stations such as Northallerton. LNER stated that the increased services are anticipated to generate £60 million per year for the rail industry, which would “enable further enhancements” on the line. The final timetable for December 2025 is scheduled for release in late summer 2025. The plans also encompass the ongoing TransPennine works in Huddersfield, meaning the express service from York and Manchester Piccadilly via Castleford and Wakefield Kirkgate will not call at Deighton. The proposal for the December 2025 timetable was formulated based on public consultations initiated in 2021. LNER further explained that the additional funds generated by the extra services would be directed towards improvements on the line, such as enabling additional track capacity between Newcastle and York.
