The New York Times’ chief soccer correspondent, Rory Smith, has indicated the potential for Liverpool to transfer goalkeeper Alisson at the conclusion of the current season, opting instead to retain Caoimhin Kelleher. Kelleher, the team’s second-choice goalkeeper, has delivered strong performances during Alisson’s recent absence. However, with Liverpool’s acquisition of Giorgi Mamardashvili planned for the summer, it implies that one of the current goalkeepers is expected to leave. This raises the question of which player that might be. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Smith stated, “It’s possible that Alisson is the goalkeeper that leaves Liverpool in the summer.” He further elaborated on his perspective, adding, “I don’t have any reason to believe it will be, but I don’t think it would be ridiculous if Liverpool think Kelleher has everything needed to succeed him.” Smith also noted Mamardashvili’s promising outlook, suggesting a scenario similar to Arsenal’s with David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale, where “you have two and you have competition between them to establish who’s going to be number one.” Nevertheless, Smith considered the possibility that Liverpool might evaluate “Alisson’s injury record, and the fact he’s on a lot of money,” leading them to conclude “maybe it’s time for him to earn that money elsewhere.”
