An update concerning Crystal Palace’s stadium redevelopment plan was released earlier this week. Crystal Palace is considering initiating construction on the main stand development once the current season concludes. Following a summer dedicated to preliminary works, the club has stated that the development is “progressing well” and has now entered its final planning phase. This phase encompasses negotiations with contractors, with the intention to commence building works after the 2024-25 campaign is complete. The club confirmed that final legal agreements with Croydon Council for the redevelopment of the Main Stand have been signed, and initial enabling works are beginning in preparation for construction. The redevelopment project is designed to overhaul Selhurst Park, increasing its capacity from 26,000 to over 34,000, while also providing year-round community facilities. In a previous update issued in July, Crystal Palace indicated that the new stand is intended to be built around the existing structure, with the expectation of keeping the stadium fully operational throughout the construction process. In the latest update, released on 17 December, the club also confirmed that they have identified some minor adjustments to the original stadium design plans for which they are seeking permission. These adjustments include an updated seating layout to meet new safety guidance, changes to the parking plans to reduce disruption for local residents, and improvements to the proposed ‘Fanzone’.
