Highland Council has announced that dog control notices (DCNs) have been served on the owners of three dogs subsequent to reports of sheep being attacked in Easter Ross. The local authority reported that several sheep sustained serious injuries, and five ultimately died, during an incident that took place in Hilton, near Balintore. Two individuals were issued DCNs last Friday. The conditions of these notices include the requirement for the dogs to be kept on leads when being walked. Police Scotland, which conducted a joint investigation with the council, confirmed its awareness of concerns within the local community regarding the dogs. Alan Yates, Highland Council’s environmental health manager, stated: “Our service is aware of the public concerns in respect of this case and hope that the action taken helps provide some reassurance to the public that further steps have been taken in response to the sheep worrying incidents.” Chief Inspector Calum Smith added: “Officers are liaising with a range of partners to address and resolve the situation.”
