Organisers have announced that the Christmas light celebrations will feature a performance by Leon Mallet, known as the YouTube sensation “East Anglian Boy.” The Norwich switch-on event is scheduled for Thursday evening, occurring in front of City Hall, located on St Peter’s Street. In addition to Mr. Mallet’s festive act, the lights will be activated by comedian Owen Evans, a member of the comedy duo The Nimmo Twins. A professional singer, Mr. Mallett advanced to the live finals of The X Factor in 2017. Claire Kidman stated: “Our Festive lights switch-on, hosted by the council in front of City Hall, is a wonderful and enjoyable annual treat which for many of us marks the start of the countdown to the festive period.” She further commented: “We do hope everyone from all communities and all beliefs, and of all ages, will come along and enjoy this joyous gathering of festive goodwill and fun, and experience the community-spirit which makes Norwich so special.” The council indicated that after the switch-on, a brass band will perform seasonal favourites. Numerous market stalls will stay open until 20:00 GMT, and a funfair will provide entertainment from 16:30 until late. Additional activities scheduled include a Christmas disco by The Catton Grove Allstars, festive Framtastics Gymnastics, and blessings for the festive season delivered by the Revd Canon Edward Carter of St Peter Mancroft Church. The illumination of the lights is set for 19:00. For updates on Norfolk news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
