A sex offender, described as “highly dangerous,” has received a 10-year prison sentence after breaking into a residence and assaulting a child. Saqib Khan, a resident of Brighouse, gained entry to a family home, proceeded into the child’s bedroom, and carried out a sexual assault while the child’s parents were on the lower floor, according to proceedings at Leeds Crown Court. Khan, aged 40, received his sentence on Thursday for the sexual assault of a child under the age of 10, which occurred on 20 April. Detective Inspector Tal Laher of West Yorkshire Police characterized Khan’s conduct as “shocking,” stating that he “put his victim and [the] parents through what would be any family’s worst nightmare.” The victim’s family members detected a disturbance on the upper floor but could not access the room. Subsequently, the child’s father contacted 999, exited the premises, and requested assistance from two police officers who were in the vicinity of the address. The officers then forcibly entered the room, where they restrained and apprehended Khan, who had been found unanimously guilty of sexual assault after a trial held in October. Detective Inspector Laher affirmed that there was “no doubt” that Khan constituted a “highly dangerous sexual offender.” He added, “His offending could have been even worse had he not been restrained by two police constables who saw the child’s father on the street and intervened.” Upon his release from incarceration, Khan will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Furthermore, he was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which stipulates that he will face immediate arrest and prosecution should he violate any of the conditions established upon his release from prison.
