Omer Riza’s performance as Cardiff City’s interim manager continues to be notable, yet consistent results are essential for the Bluebirds to distance themselves from the Championship’s relegation battle. Riza has accumulated 15 points from his 10 matches since Erol Bulut’s dismissal in September. Nevertheless, Cardiff has experienced a decline in momentum as they approach a potentially pivotal series of fixtures, beginning with Wednesday night’s home game against Queens Park Rangers. Riza secured four wins and two draws in his initial seven games at the helm, marking a significant improvement in the team’s fortunes after Cardiff had collected only one point from the first 18 available this season under Bulut. However, since that strong run, Riza’s squad has managed to earn just one point from three subsequent games, including defeats against Luton Town and Blackburn Rovers, followed by a draw at Sheffield Wednesday last weekend. Queens Park Rangers, currently positioned at the bottom of the league, will visit Wales having registered only one victory all season, which occurred at Luton on 30 August. Since that date, Marti Cifuentes’ team has recorded six draws and six defeats, and they have failed to score a goal in their last four away matches – the club’s longest such sequence in 16 years. Following the Rangers’ visit, Cardiff is scheduled to play away at Coventry City, before two more home fixtures against Watford and Preston, and then an away trip to Stoke City in mid-December. These upcoming opportunities, therefore, could allow Cardiff to advance towards a mid-table position, and for Riza to strengthen his case for a permanent contract.
