Luke McCowan’s tenure at Celtic commenced cautiously following his deadline-day transfer from Dundee for an estimated £1 million. However, an injury sustained by captain Callum McGregor led to the 26-year-old midfielder making his initial league start for the club, where he delivered a strong performance. McCowan, who previously stated he has employed a mindset coach to prepare for matches well before joining Celtic, scored the inaugural goal against Motherwell during Sunday’s game. Manager Rodgers has suggested that McGregor might be fit enough to return for a midweek fixture. Despite this, McCowan could again be given the opportunity to solidify his position in the starting line-up when his former Dundee teammates arrive in the east end of Glasgow. The Scottish player’s rising performance has occurred concurrently with, and contributed to, a decline for former manager Tony Docherty. Fan dissatisfaction has grown following a sequence of only one victory in their last eight matches, which was secured during their most recent away game against Motherwell. Dundee has not secured a victory against Celtic in 43 encounters, a streak dating back to a 2-0 win at Celtic Park in April 2001, and has lost their most recent 10 consecutive matches against them. Docherty’s least desired outcome would be for his former protege to deliver another strong performance, thereby extending Dundee’s unfavorable record.
