A town council has issued an apology to families who expressed disappointment after its annual firework display was postponed by over an hour. According to social media posts, some attendees departed the free event, held on Saturday at Cae Glas Park in Oswestry, Shropshire, before the fireworks commenced. A town council spokesperson indicated that the display, initially scheduled for 19:00 GMT, was delayed due to safety concerns. “There were several other issues on the night which we are reviewing including lack of communication and layout of the venue,” they added. The town council collaborates with the Borderland Rotary Club to organize the event, which featured low-sound fireworks, a laser show, and live music. The BBC has contacted the Rotary Club for their comments. Donations were collected at the event to raise funds for local charities. Social media comments alleged that the crowd was relocated multiple times because individuals were standing in “unsafe zones,” and that updates on the situation were infrequent. “Spending an hour telling people to move when there was nowhere for them to move to; when people wanted to leave security would not let people out – people had to jump the fence to Welsh Walls to get out,” one person stated online. Another participant added: “Pitch black, everyone rushing in and trip hazards everywhere. Who ‘risk assessed’ that genius idea? Also only one exit too. Because we were told by security could only leave the one way.” A separate individual characterized the evening as a “dreadfully disappointing evening for two grandchildren.” In its statement, the town council further communicated: “The last thing any of us wanted was for families to leave feeling disappointed and let down.” They also affirmed, “We are taking all comments on board so that lessons can be learned for any future displays.” Post navigation Plot Details Emerge for New Bergerac Series UK and Ireland’s First TikTok Awards Celebrate Diverse Content Creators
