Dominic Croucher, Jamie Williams, and Paul Morrell have received prison sentences for their roles in a scheme to kidnap, blackmail, and coerce an individual into providing a substantial sum of money. On 3 September 2023, these men attempted to force the victim into a van in Luton. According to police, the victim’s fence and garden shed were additionally set ablaze, and he faced intimidation via social media after reportedly acquiring “some money”. All three individuals, originating from Swansea and Doncaster, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to kidnap and blackmail. Their sentencing took place at Luton Crown Court. Croucher, aged 28, residing at Penderry Road, Swansea, received a sentence of eight years and three months. Williams, 40, and Morrell, 39, both from Kentmere Drive, Doncaster, were each handed sentences of 10 years and six months. Detectives reported that on 3 September, at approximately 19:40 BST, the victim was walking on Havelock Road when he was attacked and pulled to the ground. Williams attempted to restrain the victim with handcuffs and dragged him towards a white van. The victim succeeded in escaping, and the van departed. However, police recovered the handcuffs. DNA evidence from the cuffs connected them to Williams and Morrell, and investigators identified Croucher as the driver of the van. Police indicated that phone records showed discussions among the defendants regarding the extensive journey. The individuals formulated a plan for what to communicate if intercepted by law enforcement and referenced “life-changing money.” On 11 September, the victim received threatening messages via social media, which demanded funds and contained proof that the men had been observing the victim and his family. It is believed that later that same week, Williams and Morrell arrived at the victim’s residence and ignited his fence and shed. Det Con Daniel Matcham stated: “This was an escalating series of events where the offenders attempted to kidnap the victim by using serious violence against him and, when that didn’t work, they continued their vendetta by threatening him and setting his fence and garden shed on fire.” “Their intimidating and wicked actions left the victim in fear of not only his life, but the lives of his family too.”
