Spencer Johnson, who debuted for Australia in 2023, achieved his maiden international five-wicket haul, playing a pivotal role in Australia’s 13-run victory over Pakistan in the second T20 international in Sydney. This win secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Australia posted 147 runs for nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Short contributing 32 runs from 17 balls and Rauf taking 4 wickets for 22 runs. In pursuit, Pakistan was dismissed for 134 runs in 19.4 overs, despite Khan’s 52 runs from 38 balls. Johnson’s bowling figures were 5 wickets for 26 runs. The 28-year-old pace bowler’s impressive spell of 5-26 was instrumental as Australia bowled out Pakistan for 134, clinching the second T20 match of the three-game series. Chasing a target of 148 runs, Pakistan’s top order faltered against Johnson, who claimed three early wickets, leaving the visiting team at 44 runs for four wickets. Pakistan managed to stabilize their innings, largely propelled by Usman Khan’s half-century. However, Johnson ended this recovery by dismissing Khan for 52 runs, subsequently taking his fifth wicket of the match by removing Abbas Afridi. Irfan Khan’s unbeaten contribution of 37 runs brought Pakistan close to their target. Nevertheless, their innings concluded when Haris Rauf was run out, resulting in the visitors being dismissed for a total of 134 runs. Following his performance, Johnson stated, “It’s an opportunity I don’t take lightly – I’m privileged to be wearing the green and gold. You never know when your last game is going to be for Australia, so every game is a bonus. Hopefully I can play a couple more.” The third and concluding T20 match is scheduled to be held in Hobart on 18 November.
