An individual believed to be part of a human trafficking network has been repatriated to the United Kingdom following an attempt to evade authorities. Officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) took Arsen Feci, aged 46, into custody at Heathrow Airport upon his arrival on Wednesday. According to the NCA, Mr. Feci, whose address is Browtowe Street in Nottingham, was apprehended in Spain in August. This occurred after he had left the UK in March 2023, having been released on bail prior to his scheduled trial. On Thursday, he appeared before Nottingham Crown Court, facing charges of aiding illegal immigration into the UK. The NCA states that its investigators suspect Feci’s involvement included acquiring necessary equipment and recruiting individuals to “staff” journeys from France and Belgium into the UK. He has been held in custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance at the same judicial venue on 16 January. Derek Evans, a branch commander for the NCA, commented: “Arsen Feci fled the UK after being charged for his alleged involvement in a people smuggling gang bringing people to the UK via small boats.” He added: “We believe his role in the group was sourcing equipment and people to ensure crossings were a success.” Evans continued: “With thanks to Spanish police, Feci has now been arrested and returned to the UK.” He concluded: “The NCA has global reach and we will continue to work closely with our international partners to bring those who try to evade justice back to the UK to face the courts.” For updates, follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
