Swansea City has announced that Liam Cullen has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract, securing his presence at the Championship club until the summer of 2028. Cullen has served as Swansea’s primary striker for a significant portion of the current season. The Wales international, who has been Luke Williams’ preferred centre-forward for much of the current season, was previously scheduled to become a free agent next summer. During the 2023-24 campaign, Swansea had contemplated offering Cullen a new long-term agreement, but ultimately decided to activate a one-year extension clause in his existing contract. In April, head coach Williams had challenged Cullen to demonstrate his value for an extended contract throughout the 2024-25 campaign. Cullen has now received swift recognition for his strong start to this campaign, during which he has netted three goals in 11 appearances for Swansea and made his debut in competitive play for Wales. Head coach Williams stated, “It’s fair to say we have tried to get this deal sorted in a short space of time, since we have come back to negotiating.” He continued, “I think that is evident and I think everyone is happy with that, because it is so important to have Liam’s contract situation sorted out.” Williams added, “He is a player who gives everything for the club every single day, and you can see that on the pitch.” Pembrokeshire-born Cullen has accumulated a total of 23 goals across 130 senior appearances since progressing through Swansea’s youth system. Cullen was among several Swansea players whose contracts were set to conclude at the end of the season, with centre-backs Ben Cabango and Harry Darling also in this group. Currently, Cullen stands as the top scorer for a Swansea team that has registered the lowest number of goals in the Championship this season. Williams further commented, “We have not been as potent as we would like to be, but we know having the likes of Liam Cullen will help us do that in the future.” He concluded, “He is tireless, he gets through so much work for the team, but we know he has quality as well.”
