Steve Clarke spoke to reporters following the announcement of his Scotland squad for the forthcoming Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Poland. He shared the following remarks: Clarke conveyed his satisfaction regarding the return of players absent from the previous camp, notably “big character” John McGinn. He noted that while performances in the preceding four Nations League encounters have been strong, he aims for the team to accumulate additional points. Clarke mentioned Lewis Ferguson’s comeback for Bologna, but stated that for players recovering from longer-term injuries, it is preferable for them to gain playing time with their respective clubs to ensure their readiness for Scotland’s commitments in March. The coach views this as an opportunity to observe Cieran Slicker “up close and personal,” as he is no longer eligible for the under-21 squad. The head coach underscored “the pathway” from the under-21s to the senior squad, drawing attention to the progress demonstrated by Connor Barron, Ben Doak, and Tommy Conway. Clarke verified Che Adams’ injury, incurred over the weekend, will undergo assessment by his club, Torino. He has included four strikers in the current squad, thus eliminating the need for any players to be on standby.
