Residents in Bramhall express that their village feels “cut off” from Greater Manchester, attributing this to frequent weekend train cancellations. Although Bramhall station offers connections to Stockport town centre and Manchester, local inhabitants describe Northern Rail services as unreliable, noting that Sunday services have ceased entirely. Ioannis Verdelis, a resident, informed the Local Democracy Reporting Service that a train last departed from Bramhall on a Sunday in September. Tom Morrison, the MP for Cheadle, characterized the village’s situation as a “disgrace” and urged prompt improvements. Mr Verdelis stated: “I got very frustrated this weekend, I wanted to go to Stockport with my mum and the kids, but trains weren’t running. For people who don’t drive there is a feeling of being cut off.” Julia Danielska, a Manchester resident, has adopted an extended commute to work, traveling by train to Cheadle followed by a bus to Bramhall. She explained this alternative route is more dependable, even though a Northern train journey to Bramhall “on paper should take 17 minutes”. Northern issued an apology, stating it is working to resolve the problems leading to cancellations and delays. Matt Rice, Northern’s chief operating officer, commented: “We are sorry for our recent performance, accept it has not been good enough and understand the impact this has on our customers.” Local residents have initiated a petition advocating for the reinstatement of Sunday train services.
