The construction of a multi-use games area has been completed as part of a £1 million renovation of a Leicestershire village park. Charnwood Borough Council provided an update on the ongoing work at Memorial Park in Sileby, which is being managed by the parish council. The borough council reported that two new play areas are currently being installed, the footpaths throughout the park have been upgraded, and the main entrance has been redesigned to improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians. This multi-use games area replaces an older facility within the park, with the entire project scheduled for completion next year. Approximately £500,000 was allocated to the project by the borough council, drawing from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. An additional funding contribution of about £500,000 is supporting the project, sourced from developers who have received permission to build in the area, bringing the total cost of the scheme to approximately £1 million. Another entrance has also been landscaped, and new benches have been placed within the park. The borough council further added that the sports pavilion at the park will be improved to broaden its functionality, and a community garden will be established. Julie Jones, Sileby Parish Council chair, commented: “We are really pleased with how the project is progressing and have received very positive feedback from residents.” She continued: “We are continuing to work hard behind the scenes to complete the rest of the scheme and look forward to it all being finished in 2025.” Jones concluded: “These improvements will benefit residents for many years to come.” Post navigation Bell Ringers Uncover Somber History of Devil’s Knell RSPCA Reports Significant Increase in Animal Abandonment
