A visual representation, created by an artist, of a new school facility has been unveiled. This comes after the initial building was mandated for demolition just two years following its inauguration. Buckton Fields Primary School, situated in Boughton, close to Northampton, commenced operations in 2021. However, it was compelled to cease activities in August 2023 due to concerns regarding its structural integrity. For a period of six months, students were moved to Pineham Barns school, located six miles (9.6km) distant. Concurrently, provisional teaching spaces were constructed on a different section of the school’s premises. The Preston Hedges Trust, the organization responsible for operating the school, stated its aspiration to finalize the construction of the new permanent facility by September 2026, contingent upon obtaining the necessary planning approval. Buckton Fields was among three educational institutions in the UK that the Department for Education (DfE) ordered to close. These schools had utilized the same construction firm, Caledonian Modular, which entered administration in March 2022. Notwithstanding the difficulties encountered, the school received a “remarkable” positive Ofsted assessment earlier in the current year. Principal Hannah Rogers commented: “The new building will include a state-of-the-art innovation centre, a 4G sports pitch, a larger hall… and a host of sustainable features such as solar panels and a green roof.” Paul Watson, the chief executive of Preston Hedges Trust, stated: “Buckton Fields has shown itself throughout this challenging situation to be a unique school set in a very special community. “We are really looking forward to continuing our work with the local community to get their input in the current plans, and look forward to developing a school building Buckton Fields can be truly proud of.”
