Crystal Palace Activates Contract Extension for Jean-Philippe Mateta

Crystal Palace has exercised the option within Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract, prolonging his tenure at the club until 2027. The 27-year-old French player’s existing agreement was set to expire in June 2026, meaning he would have entered the final 18 months of that deal as the new year began. However, individuals familiar with the arrangement informed BBC Sport that Palace utilized this contractual clause to secure his presence at Selhurst Park for an additional two and a half years. The club has not yet issued an official confirmation regarding this development. Discussions concerning a new contract between Mateta and Crystal Palace, known as the Eagles, have been ongoing in recent months, prompted by his impressive goal-scoring performance. The attacker has expressed a desire to participate in European football competitions throughout his career and aims to represent France at the 2026 World Cup. Mateta has established himself as a crucial component of the Crystal Palace squad, showing significant improvement since Oliver Glasner assumed management of the team. Last season, he netted 11 goals across the final 10 matches, contributing to the Eagles’ 10th-place finish. Subsequently, he scored five goals for the French national team during the Olympics, where they secured a silver medal. This season to date, the forward has accumulated seven goals and two assists across 21 appearances in all competitions.
