A wedding ceremony for a couple was salvaged by a holiday park located in Devon, following the cancellation of their original venue due to Storm Darragh. Paul and Jason Wilson-Sellars had scheduled their marriage ceremony for Saturday at a Dawlish location, but reported that the venue withdrew its services approximately half a day prior to the event, citing a rare red wind warning as the reason. Adrianne Kamester, the Matron of Honour, stated that “panic ensued” because around 90 attendees, including some who had journeyed from abroad, were expected at the occasion. Ms. Kamester launched an urgent plea via social media, after which Lady’s Mile Holiday Park, also situated in Dawlish, contacted her to provide an alternative location. Paul, who had been engaged to Jason for a period of five years, expressed that he was “in shock” by the offer. He recounted that on the morning of their wedding, the couple dedicated their time to traveling to the initial site to move all the decorations to the holiday park. “We should have been drinking prosecco,” Paul stated. He added, “We had half an hour to get ready.” Paul mentioned that the couple donned “crowns and capes,” explaining that their theme was “royal Christmas.” “It came out, I think, better than what it would have been at the other place,” he remarked. He concluded, “It was just fantastic.” Ms. Kamester commented: “If you know Paul and Jason, this wedding was everything and more.” She continued, “All the glitz and the glamour, the Christmas feel, it was just fantastic.” She also expressed, “I do believe everything happens for a reason.” Rhian Hughes, who serves as the holiday, sales, and revenue manager at the park, stated that employees noticed Ms. Kamester’s appeal posted on Facebook. “We knew we needed to help,” she affirmed. She elaborated, “All the team pulled together, we had reception serving food, we had our entertainment team doing Santa and the elves.” Hughes added, “I think they were slightly disheartened when they turned up in the morning but I think when they realised what we could do for them they realised, actually, it was going to be great.” “The aim was to make them happy,” she concluded.
