Organisers have announced that an ice rink in Jersey will commence operations this weekend with curtailed opening hours, attributing the change to a “delay in the installation of light rigging”. The Jersey Development Company (JDC) specified that the Weighbridge Ice Rink, located in St Helier, is scheduled to open its doors on Saturday at 09:30 GMT. The JDC further stated that the rink will close daily at 16:00 GMT from 16 to 19 November, a measure taken to “ensure safety in low light conditions”. The facility’s original opening was planned for the October half-term period; however, this was postponed subsequent to a metal stake being inadvertently driven through a 90,000-volt electricity cable. According to organisers, the incident occurred on 11 October while an anchoring stake, intended to weather-proof the rink’s marquee against high winds, was being installed. The JDC issued an apology for the postponement and any resulting disappointment. It also confirmed that individuals who had made bookings for the ice rink during the specified restricted period in November would be contacted. The ice rink is slated for closure on 20 and 21 November, with opening times from 22 November onwards to be announced at a later date, as stated by the company.
