Renowned musician Noddy Holder has committed to sponsoring an under-7s football team. The frontman of Slade, a known supporter of Wolves, has provided financial backing to the Bridgnorth Spartans Under-7s Red team, serving as the front-of-shirt sponsor for their home uniform. Kelly Woodcock, the club’s co-chair, expressed her surprise, stating: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out and we’re all blown away that he has chosen to support our club”. Holder, a native of Walsall, stated his desire to foster the development of the next generation of athletes in the Midlands, expressing hope that some might eventually play for Wolves. Mrs. Woodcock further noted that the club, which offers sessions for participants of all ages and skill levels, depends on the assistance of local residents and businesses, asserting it “couldn’t survive” without their contributions. Founded in 1987, the Spartans boast over 500 members and 100 volunteers. The club fields 24 competitive teams, spanning age groups from under-7s to under-18s, in addition to offering accessibility football for children with special requirements, adult teams, and a walking football group. The iconic Slade figure commented: “I have done lots of things in my life but being on the front of a football shirt is a first and I love it!” Updates can be found by following BBC Shropshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
