Richard Admans, 60, of Marsh Road, Spalding, has received a prison sentence after assaulting his former partner with a kitchen knife following threats to end her life. Admans pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and making a threat to kill during an appearance at Lincoln Crown Court in September. On Monday, at the same court, he was handed a sentence of three years and ten months in custody. Furthermore, Admans was issued a restraining order, which prohibits him from any contact with the victim. The court was informed that the woman sustained injuries to her abdomen during the assault, which occurred in Little London, Spalding, on March 19. These injuries were not life-threatening. Noel Philo, the prosecuting barrister, stated that Admans approached the woman as she entered a vehicle and instructed her: “You need to come home, and come home now.” He subsequently declared: “I’m going to kill you now – it will be quick because they [the knives] are nice and sharp.” A victim impact statement, presented to the court, detailed the victim’s ongoing fear upon seeing a car resembling her husband’s. She affirmed: “I live in fear of Richard, even though I know he is in prison.” It was also revealed in court that Admans had a prior conviction from February 2014 for holding a knife to the woman’s throat. During the sentencing, Judge Simon Hirst informed Admans that the threat to kill constituted the most severe of his offenses, citing the visible presence of the knife and his history of violence. The judge added that the victim had “feared for her life and believed you would carry out the threat.” In his mitigation, Jeremy Janes noted that Admans had limited recollection of the incident but accepted responsibility for his actions. Mr. Janes commented: “The injury was not grave,” and “This was not a stabbing.” The court additionally heard that the 20-year relationship had concluded “relatively recently” and that the attack was uncharacteristic behavior for the defendant.
