Herefordshire is set to introduce its inaugural all-electric recycling collection vehicles (RCVs) on the county’s roads this month. These two electric RCVs are part of a larger acquisition of 28 new vehicles by Herefordshire Council, procured under its recently established recycling and waste collection services contract. Elissa Swinglehurst, the council’s cabinet member for the environment, stated that these electric vehicles are expected to contribute to the authority’s objective of achieving net zero emissions by its target date of 2030. She further elaborated, “The benefits they will bring to residents and those who visit the city include a reduction in air pollution including particulates and nitrogen oxide gases, and a reduction in noise pollution.” The council indicated that the electric RCVs would provide service to residents and businesses situated near their charging point at the Ross Road depot in Hereford.
