Individuals traveling by air from East Midlands Airport during the upcoming week are advised to allocate additional time for their journeys due to scheduled roadworks. Overnight roadworks are scheduled to occur for a period of seven days, commencing on Friday, at the M1 junction situated close to East Midlands Airport (EMA) in Castle Donington. This work encompasses improvements to the junction 24 roundabout at Kegworth Interchange, the M1 exit sliproad, the A50 eastbound at junction 1, and the connecting road between the A50 and the M1. All these specified roads will be inaccessible to traffic starting from 20:00 GMT each night. According to National Highways, these closures are necessary for “essential safety works,” which involve tasks such as resurfacing and renewing road markings and studs. The work is planned for seven consecutive nights, with all closures expected to be removed by 06:00 the subsequent morning. A spokesperson for National Highways stated: “Flying from East Midlands Airport? Allow extra time to get there due to roadworks.” The spokesperson added: “We’ll maintain access for emergency services throughout. We’ll make every effort to minimise the impact of our work on the local community and the travelling public.” For updates, follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
