Manchester United player Diogo Dalot made an unannounced visit to a local homeless shelter, an event described by the charity as “a real mood lifter” for individuals facing difficulties during the Christmas period. The Portuguese defender, who joined the club from Porto for £19 million, provided clothing and food donations to visitors at Lifeshare, a homeless charity situated in Manchester city centre. Subsequently, on Christmas Eve, he and his partner distributed hot meals to over 100 people. Dalot, aged 25, stated: “Unfortunately, homelessness is on the rise – as a family we want to raise awareness and also directly help people wherever we can.” He further commented: “I have lived in Manchester for over six years now and I’m proud to call this city my home.” Dalot also praised the volunteers, saying: “The volunteers that I have met here today are really inspirational, they are true heroes and it was a pleasure to learn about their dedication.” He concluded: “I’m really grateful that I was able to spend time with them and play a small part in helping to deliver such vital work for the people that they support.” Jahan Hussain, a trustee at Lifeshare, remarked on the significance of such assistance: “Following a really difficult year, where Lifeshare even faced closure during its 40th anniversary, support like this is literally life-saving.” Hussain added: “Diogo and his wife were brilliant and got stuck in – it was a real mood lifter for all.” Lifeshare is currently conducting its annual Christmas Project, a week-long initiative during which the charity operates from 7am to 7pm daily until Friday, offering shelter, food, and companionship to anyone in need.
