Britain’s largest defence company, BAE Systems, has announced plans to establish over 350 new positions across the south of England, attributing this expansion to an unprecedented level of financial backing. The firm specified that Essex, Hampshire, and Kent are among the areas that will benefit from a £1bn UK-wide expenditure dedicated to education, training, and skills development. An additional 90 jobs are anticipated to be generated in the south west, including locations such as Dorchester and Weymouth in Dorset. Francesca Di Mascio, a first-year electrical engineering apprentice at BAE Systems’ Naval Ships business, described her role as “everything I’d hoped for”. She elaborated, “I joined BAE Systems because job security is important to me and I wanted to work in a hands-on environment.” Di Mascio also stated, “Doing an apprenticeship is a great opportunity to earn while you learn and this is the first time I’ve really felt valued after joining a business.” A substantial portion of the funding will be allocated to apprentice, undergraduate, and graduate roles. The company indicated that these new positions would account for approximately 15% of its UK workforce once filled. BAE Systems also conveyed its commitment to enhancing diversity as part of its recruitment procedures. The introduction of new undergraduate and graduate roles brings the total number of new positions across the UK to 2,414. Of these, 370 are designated for south and south east England, which includes 78 new apprenticeship roles within Maritime Services in Portsmouth and Cowes. Secretary of State for Defence John Healey remarked that BAE Systems was “a leading light in the UK defence industry”. He added, “This investment is a vote of confidence in the UK as a leader for cutting-edge employment, creating highly skilled jobs across the UK.” Post navigation Hospitality Leaders Warn Budget Tax Increases Threaten Jobs Leeds City Centre Rooftop Restaurant Angelica and Crafthouse to Close
