The family of a man who died after being struck by a car has characterized him as the “kindest person you would meet”. Craig Andrew Russell, a pedestrian, succumbed to his injuries at the site of the collision on the A1058 Coast Road in Newcastle, specifically between the Corner House and Cradlewell, in the early hours of last Tuesday. His relatives expressed that they would perpetually miss their “blue-eyed boy”. Northumbria Police reported that a man in his 60s was apprehended on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is currently out on bail. The incident, which involved a blue and red Volvo HGV, occurred around 01:00 BST and led to the road’s closure for multiple hours. Mr. Russell’s family stated: “[Craig] had his ups and downs in life, but was always the kindest person you would meet, he would do anything for anyone and was always polite and extremely grateful.” Approximately a year prior, Craig acquired a dog named Bear Bear. He held a deep affection for the animal and was rarely seen without it; individuals often noticed Bear Bear before Craig. If Bear Bear ever wandered off, the dog was widely recognized as Craig’s and promptly returned to him. Authorities are still requesting that witnesses or anyone possessing dashcam footage from the moments preceding the collision come forward and contact them. Sgt John Sanderson commented: “Our thoughts continue to be with Craig’s loved one at this incredibly difficult time.”
