Police in Merseyside have reported the discovery of a potential grenade located in the boot of a vehicle. Merseyside Police confirmed their presence on Strand Road in Bootle, following a report concerning a potential device received around 13:10 GMT. According to a Merseyside Police spokesperson, a cordon was established, and multiple residences and commercial properties were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The spokesperson further stated, “There are also multiple road closures in place, so please avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.” This incident follows the recent discovery of two unexploded bombs, which were also located in Bootle. An unexploded World War Two bomb was found at a location on North Atlantic Avenue on Tuesday, 22 October, with a second device being discovered on the identical street on Thursday, 24 October. The initial device recovered was transported to Ainsdale Beach in Southport for detonation by the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD). Video footage of the controlled explosion, recorded by the news site Eye On Southport, depicted the EOD team neutralizing the device at the beach.
