Two individuals have received prison sentences for violent disorder that occurred during the riots this summer. Civil disturbance erupted in Middlesbrough on 4 August, stemming from a protest that commenced at the town’s cenotaph. Akheel Khan, 24, of Wheatley Close in Middlesbrough, who admitted guilt to violent disorder, was sentenced to 15 months following an appearance at Teesside Crown Court. Separately, Ashley Ferguson, 34, of Somerset Street in Middlesbrough, who faced charges for several offenses including violent disorder, also received a 30-month jail term. Ferguson’s sentence included 30 months for violent disorder and an additional 12 months for burglary, with the latter term to be served concurrently. A charge concerning the possession of an offensive weapon in a public place was permitted to remain on file.
