Gloucestershire Police has named Katy Barrow-Grint, previously an Assistant Chief Constable with Thames Valley Police, as its new interim Deputy Chief Constable. She expressed her anticipation of “serving” the county’s residents and is set to commence her duties later this month. This appointment follows the earlier naming of Maggie Blyth as interim Chief Constable, which occurred after Rod Hansen’s suspension due to allegations of gross misconduct. Ms Barrow-Grint stated her eagerness to “getting out into the communities” across Gloucestershire. In her announcement regarding the appointment, Ms Blyth commented: “The position has been vacant since January and filling the vacancy was one of my first priorities when I started.“I am confident this decisive action will consolidate the excellent executive leadership team already in place and provide reassurance to the communities we serve.” Ms Barrow-Grint remarked: “Having spent lots of my life visiting family in the county, I know what a brilliant place it is and I am privileged to now be able to become part of the policing family serving its residents.”I look forward to meeting my new colleagues and getting out into the communities of Gloucestershire over the coming weeks.” Joining Thames Valley Police in 2000, Ms Barrow-Grint has held diverse roles, encompassing response, CID, covert policing, and neighbourhood policing. Her previous responsibilities include serving as Commander for the Oxfordshire local policing area and spearheading Thames Valley Police’s initiatives addressing violence against women and girls. This appointment is temporary, and an advertisement for a permanent Deputy Chief Constable position is expected to be issued shortly. Ms Barrow-Grint is scheduled to commence her duties on 11 November. For updates, follow BBC Gloucestershire on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
