Man Released Without Charge in Kyran Durnin Murder Probe

The Irish police, known as Gardaí, have freed a man who was taken into custody on suspicion of Kyran Durnin’s murder, without filing any charges. Kyran, last observed alive at the age of six, was reported missing from his residence in Drogheda, County Louth, during August. By October, Gardaí had initiated a murder inquiry, stating their approach was to consider Kyran as missing and presumed deceased. Despite the missing person investigation commencing in August, investigators suspect Kyran might have been killed over two years prior. On Thursday, Gardaí, who are investigating Kyran’s disappearance and murder, apprehended the man on suspicion of murder. He had been held at a Garda station located in the eastern part of the Republic of Ireland. Also on Thursday, investigating Gardaí commenced searches at two properties in Drogheda, aiming to uncover any details regarding Kyran’s location or the circumstances of his disappearance. The search at one of these residences concluded on Thursday, with Gardaí indicating that no additional information would be disclosed. The search at the second house, assisted by a cadaver dog, was ongoing. Gardaí further stated that this property, including its gardens, would undergo an intrusive search, alongside technical and forensic analyses. A woman had been arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder, and subsequently released without charge on Wednesday. In 2022, Kyran attended the national [primary] school situated close to his home in Dundalk. Authorities reportedly received information that he was expected to relocate to Northern Ireland and enroll in a new school in Newry. School officials in Dundalk, the location where Kyran resided with his mother, were reportedly informed at the conclusion of the 2022 summer term that he would be attending school across the border; however, this assertion remained unconfirmed.
