A new police dog has been named in remembrance of PC Mark Perry, a “much-loved” police constable who served with Warwickshire Police and passed away from cancer in August at the age of 32. This black Labrador, the newest addition to the force’s dog section, has recently begun training as a specialist drugs detection dog and has been officially named PD Perry in the officer’s honor. Sgt Stacey Naughton commented, “PC Perry dedicated much of his life to helping people, and PD Perry is set to carry on his namesake’s tradition, tackling crime across the county and protecting Warwickshire’s residents.” A police spokesperson elaborated that PC Perry commenced his career as a volunteer special constable before partnering with retired dog handler PC John Hankinson, which led colleagues to conclude it was “only fitting” to name the new recruit in his honor.
