Worcester is once again hosting its Victorian Christmas Fayre. Scheduled to take place from Thursday through Sunday, the event will showcase nearly 200 stalls, various street entertainers, stilt walkers, a funfair, and live musical acts throughout the city. Throughout the four-day duration, Victorian characters in period costumes, such as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, are expected to roam the streets at different intervals. City mayor Mel Allcott stated, “The fayre will bring visitors in from far and wide, providing the perfect opportunity to showcase Worcester.” Now in its 32nd year, the fayre has historically drawn an attendance exceeding 150,000 individuals. The initial attraction to open will be the street market at 12:00 GMT on Thursday, preceding a community carol service scheduled for 16:45 at Worcester Cathedral. Following the service, a procession will proceed to the Cornmarket, where the fayre’s official opening ceremony will occur. The mayor expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m excited to see our Victorian-themed city with all the entertainment, the hospitality, the wares and my personal favourite, the carousel.” A unique dance performance by Dancefest is scheduled for Saturday at 17:00 in The Shambles, while on Sunday, attendees will have the opportunity to “find Scrooge” as he wanders through the city all day.
