Cinderford, the hometown of the 1990s band EMF, has decided to bestow a blue plaque upon the group. Hailing from Cinderford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, EMF gained prominence with their hit single “Unbelievable,” which ranked as the 30th best-selling single in the UK in 1990. The town’s council gave its unanimous approval for the plaque following a campaign initiated by local crier Jer Holland. James Atkin, the lead singer of EMF, expressed his reaction to BBC Radio Gloucestershire, stating he was “completely blown away” by the announcement. Mr. Atkin, a native of Cinderford, and the band’s guitarist Ian Dench, who is from Cheltenham, frequently acknowledge their roots during their performances. The band’s inaugural rehearsal took place in a church hall located in Cinderford. In response to the news, Mr. Atkin commented: “It’s come completely out of the blue.” He continued, “We’re just amazed. What a great thing.” He further added, “We love the Forest, we love Cinderford. It’s where we started, that’s our root. To get recognised it kind of mind-blowing.” Mr. Holland remarked: “It’s about time we recognise what they did for the town, and what they continue to do to put the town on the map.” He added, “Like many Foresters, always been very proud of their achievements.” He concluded, “Very proud, also as a fan loving their music.” Mr. Dench stated: “We feel very proud of having made Cinderford and the Forest of Dean proud of us.”
