The construction of a new playpark has been postponed, with its allocated funding redirected to alternative initiatives. Specifically, the proposed playpark at Frank’s Bridge in Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, will no longer receive financial support from the government’s Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF). Westmorland and Furness Council announced that the portion of the £315,000 initially designated for the playpark, which was part of a larger grant for the town’s redevelopment, would be reallocated. Councillor John Murray stated that it was “disappointing the new playpark will not happen as quickly as planned but the council is committed to delivering it”. The council’s current plan involves utilizing the funds originally earmarked for Frank’s Bridge to finance new play equipment at a site adjacent to Kirkby Stephen Primary School and to substitute street furniture within Market Square. The SPF funding was initially distributed among four distinct projects, which also encompassed the redesign of Silver Street Garden, the refurbishment of the visitor centre, and enhancements to street signs. A deadline of 31 March 2025 has been set for the completion of all projects funded by the SPF. Murray, who serves as the representative for Kirkby Stephen and Tebay, commented that the council now possesses “an opportunity now to create an even better playpark.” He added, “The funds freed up from this will enhance the existing projects and introduce some new features to deliver a scheme worthy of the town.” Post navigation Independent Candidate Secures Victory in Repeated Town Council By-Election US President Biden Expresses Pride in Historic Angola Visit
