The latest fundraising endeavor by a former rugby league player is scheduled to arrive in Hull and East Yorkshire on Thursday. Kevin Sinfield is undertaking a seven-day challenge, running 50km (31 miles) daily, with the goal of raising funds for six motor neurone disease (MND) charities. During his run in Hull, Mr. Sinfield will acknowledge the city’s rugby rivalry by completing the initial segment in the black and white attire of Hull FC, then changing into a red and white top, representing the colors of Hull KR. The former Leeds Rhinos player is conducting this fundraising effort to honor the memory of his friend and former team-mate, Rob Burrow, who passed away from MND in June. The schedule for the day is as follows: 07.00 GMT – Beverley Racecourse – start 08.35 – Hull Golf club 09.35 – North Ferriby village Hall 10.35 – Haltemprice Leisure centre 11.35 – Costello Stadium 12.35 – Queen Victoria Sq, Hull 13.40 – Craven Park – finish Sinfield and Burrow shared a bond as teammates on the field and friends off it. Burrow, a married father of three, concluded his playing career in 2017, having achieved eight Super League Grand Final victories and earned 15 caps for England and five for Great Britain. He dedicated his entire club career to Leeds, making over 400 appearances between 2001 and 2017. His diagnosis with MND occurred in 2019. Subsequently, Burrow and Sinfield collaborated relentlessly to generate both awareness and financial support for MND charities, prior to Burrow’s passing in June at the age of 41. The segment of the challenge taking place in Hull will also serve as a tribute to Adam Maher, a former Hull FC player who succumbed to the disease in 2020. Maher, originally from Australia, played as a second-rower, making 100 appearances for FC between 2000 and 2003 and scoring 25 tries. The “Running home for Christmas” challenge involves Sinfield and his team covering more than 50km (31 miles) daily, traversing seven regions across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Each day’s run is structured into 7km (4.3 mile) segments, with the number seven being a key element of Sinfield’s challenge, chosen to honor Burrow, who wore that number during his career. The team’s objective is to finish each 7km segment within one hour, as the subsequent block is scheduled to commence precisely on the hour, meaning their only recovery time between segments is any remaining time after completing a block. Kevin Sinfield and his team are collecting donations for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland, and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation. Sinfield has previously accumulated approximately £10 million through four annual challenges.
