A 36-year-old individual has been given a life sentence for the murder of a man in Fife, following what was described as a “brutal and prolonged” assault. At the High Court in Inverness, Christopher Brown was ordered to serve a minimum of 13 years in prison for the killing of Henry White. Mr. White, 57, was repeatedly struck with punches and kicks by Brown at a residence in Oakley on March 21, before being dragged outside and abandoned. Brown was previously found guilty in October after a trial. The High Court in Edinburgh had heard testimony detailing that Brown was consuming a drink at the home of his then-girlfriend, Leanne McKenzie, when Mr. White arrived. Ms. McKenzie, 30, recounted that Brown had gone to bathe, and upon his return, he seized Mr. White, accusing them of discussing him. She stated that Brown elbowed the older man in the face “pretty hard,” causing Mr. White to lose consciousness. When he regained consciousness, she urged him to leave for home. However, she reported that the situation escalated, and Mr. White was hit again, falling to the floor. Mr. White was later discovered with fatal injuries, including multiple rib fractures, a collapsed lung, and other wounds. The court was informed that Brown had 11 prior convictions, among them an assault resulting in injury and endangering life. Judge Lady Hood noted that Brown had told the author of a pre-sentencing report that he did not intentionally murder Mr. White. “Whilst the report’s author thought that you showed some remorse, you did not link your own behaviour to the death of someone you considered a friend,” she stated. “Your conviction for this offence represents a significant increase in already serious offending behaviour.” Det Insp Kieran Marsh, of Police Scotland, commented: “Brown will now face the consequences of his despicable actions.“I hope today’s result brings some comfort to Henry’s family and friends who have shown great strength throughout this investigation and trial.” Copyright 2024 BBC.
