A significant increase in passenger volume is anticipated by an airport in 2025, attributed to the introduction of multiple new flight paths. Bournemouth Airport, located in Dorset, announced on Monday that it had served its one millionth passenger of 2024, following what it described as a “bumper summer season.” This achievement marks the first occasion the airport has reached this passenger milestone since 2008. According to airport management, this growth resulted from an expanded variety and quantity of available flights. Ryanair established a second aircraft at the facility in 2023, incorporating Carcassonne, Edinburgh, and Venice into its destination offerings. Additionally, TUI introduced a second aircraft during the summer period, providing an additional 60,000 seats. Furthermore, the budget carrier Jet2 is set to commence operations for 20 new routes from the Dorset location starting in February, encompassing destinations such as the Canary Islands, Spain, Majorca, Turkey, and Portugal. Between April and October, Bournemouth Airport accommodated over 840,000 travelers, representing an increase of almost 103,000 passengers when compared to the corresponding timeframe in 2023. In January, anticipating this expansion, officials had previously stated their commitment to investing over £5 million in new infrastructure, apparatus, and personnel to accommodate the increasing passenger volumes. These initiatives involve enlarging the airport’s terminal structures and parking facilities. Steve Gill, the managing director, characterized the airport as “an alternative to the busy London hubs.” He further remarked, “More and more people are recognising the convenience and ease of travelling from their local airport, and with the exciting developments under way, we’re looking forward to an even wider range of destinations in the year ahead.” For updates, BBC Dorset can be followed on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
