Harlequins vice-captain Cadan Murley has committed to a new contract with the Premiership club. The winger has accumulated 53 tries across 117 matches since his initial appearance for Harlequins in 2018. The 25-year-old’s career highlights include being a member of the squad that secured the Premiership title in 2021, where he started in the 40-38 final win against Exeter Chiefs at Twickenham. He also led the league in try scoring during the 2022-23 season, with a total of 15 tries. Murley was sidelined at the beginning of the current season due to an injury. However, he has since completed the full 80 minutes in each of the team’s most recent three Premiership fixtures, registering his first try in their 36-19 victory at Exeter prior to the league’s November pause. Speaking to the Harlequins website, Murley stated: “It’s been a special year so far having led the team out [as captain] at the club I have supported since I was a little boy – every time I step out at The Stoop the fans are unbelievable,” He continued, “Getting back from injury was a massive moment already this year, and to have three 80 minutes under my belt is great. “The depth we have throughout the team is something we haven’t had in previous years, so I’m excited to see where it can take us this season and beyond.” Murley was designated vice-captain during the summer, following Alex Dombrandt’s appointment as club captain, succeeding Stephan Lewies. The specific duration of the new agreement has not been disclosed by Quins. Last season, Harlequins failed to qualify for the play-offs, experiencing significant losses both away at Exeter and at home against Bristol Bears on the season’s concluding day. This occurred despite their achievement of reaching the European Champions Cup semi-finals for the first time ever. The Twickenham-based club has experienced an inconsistent start to the current season, recording three wins and three losses in their initial six matches. Notably, they concluded a 1,723-day period without a win against London rivals Saracens, securing a 17-10 victory at The Stoop, which marked Murley’s inaugural game of the season. Harlequins are scheduled to play Sarries once more later this month in the Premiership Rugby Cup at StoneX Stadium, preceding their return to Premiership competition against Bristol on Friday, 29 November. Murley further commented, “I’ve still got lots to learn and there are things that I still want to achieve in my career. But I know Harlequins is the place for me to do that with the coaching group we have.”
