Passengers traveling across London for a “historic weekend” in women’s football will hear special station announcements delivered by several prominent Lionesses. These announcements will feature England Women’s footballers Alex Greenwood, Bethany England, Lotte Wubben-Moy, and Lucy Bronze. The recordings are scheduled to be broadcast at Fulham Broadway, Seven Sisters, and White Hart Lane stations, commemorating the first time all matches in the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship will be held in main stadiums. Seb Dance, the Deputy Mayor for Transport, stated: “I hope fans enjoy this special weekend and reflect on how women’s football continues to thrive, inspire and unite communities.” Dance further expressed that he was “thrilled” that Transport for London (TfL) had collaborated with the Barclays Women’s Super League “to celebrate this historic weekend for women’s football”. This Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur is set to face local rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane, concurrently with Chelsea hosting Manchester City at Stamford Bridge stadiums. Additionally, whiteboard messages displayed across the TfL network will draw attention to these matches and the forthcoming introduction of the London Overground Lioness line. This line connects Watford Junction and Euston, passing through Wembley, and honors the most successful senior England football team since 1966. The Lionesses secured the title of Euro 2022 champions and advanced to the Women’s World Cup final in Australia last year.
