Connor Barron, who was on the bench for Scotland’s 0-0 draw against Portugal, has been selected for the latest Scotland squad for the final round of Nations League matches. This marks the first occasion he has been called up to Steve Clarke’s initial squad. The 22-year-old Rangers midfielder had previously joined the two preceding squads as a replacement for injured senior players. During the last training camp, Clarke had to enlist several uncapped players—Liam Lindsay, Andy Irving, and Jack MacKenzie—due to a significant number of injuries. However, Barron is the sole player from that group, apart from Nicky Devlin, to retain his place for the matches against Croatia and Poland. The player, formerly with Aberdeen, has featured in 17 games overall for Philippe Clement’s team, including starting nine of Rangers’ ten league fixtures to date. Despite a challenging beginning to the season for the Ibrox club, Barron has garnered commendation and is considered a positive influence, establishing himself as a regular in the Rangers midfield.
