Wiltshire Council Imposes £3,000 in Fines for Illegal Waste Dumping

Wiltshire Council staff identified illegally dumped waste, leading to fines for two businesses and one resident. Fixed penalty notices (FPNs) were issued by Wiltshire Council to a business located in Salisbury, another firm operating out of Amesbury, and an individual residing in Hilperton. Councillor Nick Holder, who serves as the Cabinet Member for Highways, Street Scene and Flooding, commented: “These three penalties demonstrate our business plan commitment to keeping Wiltshire clean and safe. “Fly-tipping not only harms our environment but also places a costly burden on us as a council. “We will continue to act against those who disregard their waste disposal responsibilities,” he stated. A Salisbury-based business received a £1,000 fine following an incident of waste dumping at St Pauls roundabout on 1 August, which prompted a response from enforcement officers. Two black bags were found near the lay-by exit, positioned directly beneath a sign prohibiting fly-tipping. Subsequent to an investigation, a fixed penalty notice was issued to a local business. An additional £1,000 FPN was imposed on an Amesbury business for utilizing public litter bins to discard commercial waste, thereby circumventing waste disposal expenses. Businesses are mandated to undertake all necessary measures to guarantee their waste is lawfully collected, stored, and disposed of. Furthermore, all commercial waste must be collected by a registered and authorized waste carrier prior to its disposal at an approved facility. Moreover, a Hilperton resident incurred a £1,000 fine after household refuse was located on Warminster Old Road in Upton Scudamore. The discarded waste was subsequently linked to the resident, who confessed to leaving it in a ditch while en route to the waste disposal site, citing worries about maggots in her vehicle.
